SON SPACE is a series of textile image-objects emerging from the world of IF NOT NOW, a speculative short film by Kordae Jatafa Henry that explores memory, spirituality, ecological futures, and intergenerational transmission.

The inaugural veil features Tafari, the film's young protagonist, whose image appears suspended within a translucent field of fabric. Produced through a custom screen-printing process on a lightweight rayon blend, the work occupies an unstable space between garment, banner, devotional object, domestic flag, and cinematic artifact.

Rather than functioning as merchandise or a reproduction of a film still, SON SPACE extends the cinematic world beyond the screen. The work asks what remains after projection ends. What forms can a moving image take once it enters lived space? How might a cinematic image become something that can be worn, hung, carried, inherited, or gathered around?

The material itself plays an important role in this transformation. Soft, breathable, and semi-transparent, the fabric shifts with light, movement, and environment. Depending on how it is installed, the image may appear vivid and present or faint and ghostlike, behaving less like a fixed picture and more like an afterimage. Each veil becomes activated through use and draped across a wall, suspended in a window, worn on the body, or displayed as a domestic object.

Developed alongside Henry's expanded cinema practice, SON SPACE continues an ongoing investigation into how film might exceed its conventional boundaries and circulate through architecture, performance, ritual, publishing, and everyday life. In this sense, the veil is not documentation of a cinematic work but an extension of it—a portable site through which the film's images, ideas, and atmospheres can continue to move.
